Map of Montenegro in Russian: resorts, attractions, beaches. Offline map of Montenegro Montenegro Navigator for android

Almost all tourists know or guess about the benefits of owning their own car on vacation. Therefore, the popularity of independent autotravels in Montenegro is growing every year. Moreover, in addition to being on the spot, an increasing number of our compatriots are going to this country on vacation on their own transport, not at all afraid of distances. But in order to get to Montenegro, they have to go through more than one country in transit.

However, there is nothing difficult in such a motor rally, just as there are no difficulties in the trips on the Montenegrin roads themselves. Distances here are short, along the route there are often settlements, and there are not so many roads themselves - it is almost impossible to get lost if you have a map or a navigator. Traffic on the roads is quite free, traffic jams, as a rule, are small and are found only in large cities during rush hours, other drivers behave in a European manner, so even a driver with little experience can drive a car in Montenegro. The only possible difficulty is mountain roads, but there is also a good solution to the problem: plan your trips during daylight hours and do not violate the speed limit, then the road along the mountain serpentine will bring only positive emotions from contemplating stunning landscapes along the entire route.

Basic rules of the road

Montenegro has adopted common European road traffic regulations. Therefore, for a Russian driver, the signs and road markings will be well understood. You should only pay attention to some important aspects:

  • It is forbidden to drive a car after drinking alcoholic beverages, the permissible blood alcohol content is 0 ppm.
  • When driving a car, the dipped headlights must always be on.
  • The driver and all passengers must be wearing a seat belt.
  • At a roundabout, drivers who are already driving in a roundabout have the advantage.
  • Some traffic lights have an additional section that allows a right turn when the main red signal is on.
  • Permitted speed: in the city - 60 km / h, outside the city - 90 km / h.

The main fines for traffic violations:

  • Driving while intoxicated: deprivation of license with a fine of up to 2000 euros or arrest for several days.
  • Driving without turning on the dipped headlights: fine 30 euros.
  • Using a mobile phone while driving: a fine of 20 euros.
  • The movement of the driver and passengers without wearing a seat belt: a fine of 15 euros.
  • Overtaking after a warning sign and crossing a solid line: a fine of 50 to 150 euros.

A policeman in Montenegro, when stopping a driver for violating the rules, withdraws his driver's license and registration certificate from him before paying a fine, in some cases the violator's passport is also withdrawn. To return the documents, you will need to appear in court at the appointed time, get the exact amount of the fine from the judge and pay it along with legal costs through the bank, only after that your documents will be returned to you.

Traffic police usually monitor compliance with the rules in dangerous areas: in cities at intersections, on bridges, on the highway. The police are not usually involved in catching offenders on open, well-viewed suburban highways. They stop drivers only for a specific violation or during special operations to catch criminals. In the case of a minor violation of the rules, there is a chance to get off with a warning if you convince the police of your remorse.

Parking rules

The problem of parking is especially relevant for densely populated cities, such as, and others, especially during the holiday season.

In coastal cities, special lifts - "spiders" move along the roads, which collect and take away incorrectly parked cars around the clock. The fine for towing to a special parking lot is 85 euros, every day of storage - 5 euros. If the driver manages to remove the car before loading, he will pay only a fine for false removal of the tow truck - 20 euros. The fine must be paid within 8 days, if this deadline is violated, the case will be brought to court and the amount will increase by 150 euros.

The cost of paid parking varies depending on the city and can range from 20 to 80 euro cents per hour. The capital has recently introduced the service of paying for parking using SMS - a message is sent to a special number with the car number and the parking zone.

Roads, tunnels and main routes

The state of the roads in Montenegro is generally good. The absence of frost and heavy traffic flows favorably affects the safety of the road surface. The only problem is the insufficient number of signs and information boards - it is better if you have a paper or electronic map with you.

There are no toll roads in Montenegro. An exception is the passage through the Sozin tunnel, which goes through a mountain pass that separates the central part of the country from the coast. Money - 2.5 euros - is collected from the side of the road to Podgorica. This tunnel is the largest in the country, its length is almost 4200 m, it is equipped with forced ventilation and redundant junctions, it is allowed to move at a speed of 80 km / h.

By the way, speaking of tunnels - in Montenegro there are not just a lot of them, but a lot. The country mainly consists of a mountainous landscape, so motorways are forced to pass through holes made in the rocks. Most of the tunnels are cut and have an irregular shape, it is necessary to carefully drive through such sections, since the space in these places sometimes narrows and can pass the car in only one direction.

The most optimal route for independent travel to Montenegro from Russia passes through the following cities - Moscow, Brest (Belarus), Prague (Czech Republic), Vienna (Austria) and Zagreb (Croatia). Along the way, the countries of Poland, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina also pass through. True, such a route assumes that you have a Schengen visa, since you will have to travel through the EU countries.

In addition, while already in Montenegro, you can travel to neighboring states with simplified entry - Croatia, Serbia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina. In most cases, only a passport and a voucher (reservation) from the hotel are required.

In this post you will learn about the most beautiful Montenegrin routes, with maps, mileage, detailed description of the route and attractions.

I will tell you where it is more profitable rent a car how you can save a little on this. I will briefly tell you about Montenegrin roads, local police officers, car navigation and evacuation services.

Important: At the very bottom there are comments, there is even more information than in the post, and what is important, it is the most relevant. Be sure to read the comments on this post.

What to do before traveling to Montenegro

A short checklist before a car trip in Montenegro is the minimum requirement for your comfortable vacation.

The blog has detailed posts about choosing an area to live in:

  • in Budva - all areas of the most popular resort;
  • in Becici and Rafailovichi - housing on the coast and in the mountains;
  • in Podgorica - for those who love shopping;
  • in Petrovac - apartments and hotels on the beaches;
  • in Sutomore - quiet housing, almost in a village style;
  • in Ulcinj - colorful and cheap;
  • in Tivat - comfortable accommodation near the airport;
  • in Bar - very inexpensive apartments for long-term and off-season vacations;
  • in Kotor - apartments and hotels in the city-monument of UNESCO;
  • in Herceg Novi - apartments in the greenest Montenegrin town.

Also, be sure to study the article about the non-tourist attractions of the country (this is for those who have a lot of time).

What is important to know when driving a car trip in Montenegro

Important information!

Choice: if you decide to spend your Montenegrin vacation by car, then I highly recommend booking a car in advance. The sooner you take care of this, the more choice of vehicles will be at your disposal, so to speak, there is plenty to choose from. On the contrary, right before the vacation, the choice of rental cars is limited, especially difficult with the choice in the summer months (verified by personal experience).

You risk nothing: You pay the full rental amount only at the moment of receiving the car, the reservation can be canceled or changed at any time.

In Montenegro, it is profitable to rent a car for a long time. If you rent a car for the whole vacation, then significantly save on car rental (the longer the rental period, the cheaper), on group excursions (excursions from 20 Euros per person, and car rental from 20 Euros per car, you can travel half of the country per day ) and a taxi to the airport (during the season, taxi drivers charge 50 Euro per trip). You just need to warn the distributor that he would bring and pick up the car at the airport.

Sometimes a day of renting a car is cheaper than going on a group tour! Don't believe me? Here are the current prices for the most popular excursions. I have described the most popular excursion routes for you, you can explore them and ride them on your own.

Local (Montenegrin) car rental firms (check prices). If you are not planning to travel by car in Europe, then it is most profitable to use local car rental companies. There are many car rental companies in Montenegro, their prices are lower than those of large international rental companies, but there are a number of restrictions: you can take and return a car only on the territory of Montenegro (if you have a trip across Europe, this option will not work for you), go outside not every distributor will allow the borders of the country (it is still possible to go to the neighboring countries of Albania, Croatia, and further to Europe it is already more difficult).

Map of the route around Boko Kotorska Bay

Total length of the route: 125 kilometers.

Total time to complete the route: it is desirable to have a whole day of light, the route is very interesting.

Car route around Boko Kotorska Bay:

  1. Budva - Kotor: 24 km;
  2. Kotor - Perast: 12 km;
  3. Perast - Risan: 5 km;
  4. Risan - Herceg Novi: 25 km;
  5. Herceg Novi - Igalo: 3 km;
  6. Igalo - Kamenari: 17 km;
  7. Kamenari - Lepetane: 300 m;
  8. Lepetane - Kotor: 15 km;
  9. Kotor - Budva: 24 km.

We get up early and drive from Budva to Kotor, while there are still no crowds of tourists there. In the morning, it is better to go to Kotor through the pass, and not through the tunnel. Just after the stadium you should turn (see the map), the road is very interesting.

Kotor

Almost all parking lots in Kotor are paid, look for a free space, park and run to the Old Town (until Kotor was occupied by crowds of tourists). There are many sights in Kotor and its immediate environs, look for the brightest by the link.

A small life hack for Kotor: if you arrive before 8 am, you can go up to the St. John's Fortress for free, cashiers come to work after 8:00 or 8:30. Bring a bottle of water, comfortable shoes, and a camera.

If you have some free time, here is a list of Kotor attractions:

  • sit in numerous cafes;
  • feed the cats of Kotor;

Boko Bay of Kotor

We leave Kotor and drive slowly along the Boko Kotor Bay. You can call in almost any locality that you like. If there is not much time, then I strongly recommend that you definitely visit Perast and Risan, there are many interesting things (especially in Perast).

From Perest you can take a short sea excursion to the islands (the island of St. George and the island of the Virgin on the reef) or a longer one along the Bay of Kotor, this will perfectly diversify your car excursion. To look at the Boko Kotor Bay from the sea is a must see for any tourist. Or you can just wander along the only street of Perast.

On the way there will be restaurants and cafes, I recommend having lunch / dinner at the oyster farm, there are several of them in Boko Kotorka (look in the vicinity of Perast, and where you will see signs).

Herceg Novi and Igalo

The next must-see point of our road trip is the city of Herceg Novi. Before the city, I recommend to look there.

If you have a lot of free time, then you can look into the neighboring town - Igalo. In this small town there is a mud bath and an institute, everyone can undergo a course of treatment (for a fee), or indulge in the healing mud right on the local beaches (completely free).

Ferry Kamenari - Lepetane

We leave on the way back. To shorten the way to Budva, you can use the Kamenari - Lepetane ferry crossing (then you can go through Tivat, but without Kotor), the ferry is paid 5 Euro per car. The ferry itself is one of the attractions of Boko Kotorska Bay, so you can take advantage of this and admire the views.

If you are returning via Tivat, then be sure to drop in the luxury area of Porto Montenegro, order a cup of coffee and enjoy the sunset, which is magnificent in these places. Or just walk around the city and catch a glimpse of the sights of Tivat, a couple of hours will be enough for this walk.

Evening Kotor

If you have enough time, you can ride along the bay (I recommend this option). If on the way back to Budva you are driving along the bay, then be sure to look into Kotor and admire its evening illumination, sit in one of the street restaurants, which are numerous in the city. A postcard view of Kotor (the reflection of the city lights in the water forms a heart) is available from the embankment in the village of Muo. I recommend you will not regret it.

From Budva to the south of Montenegro to the Albanian border and nudists

In the south, the country's longest beach, Velika Plaza, is located, its length is more than 12 kilometers, and the largest nudist beach, Ada Bojana, is also located. In this region, the countries (near the Albanian border), Montenegro and Montenegrins are completely different, but nevertheless the trip will be interesting.

Map of the route to the south of Montenegro

Minimum route length: 220 kilometers.

Total time to complete the route: it is advisable to have a full day of light.

Road route to the south of Montenegro:

  1. Budva - Bar: 39 km;
  2. Bar - Old Bar: 5 km;
  3. Old Bar - Ulcinj: 25 km;
  4. Ulcinj - Velika plazha beach: 9 km;
  5. Velika plazha beach - Ada Bayana island: 7 km;
  6. Ada Bayana Island - Virpazar: 64 km;
  7. Virpazar - Rijeka Crnojevića: 25 km;
  8. Rijeka Crnojevića - Budva: 46 km.

Another easy adaptation route that runs along the coast and abuts the border with Albania. This is if you get to Ulcinj and return to Budva the same way.

If you have the time and desire to drive along Lake Skadar (but the road is quite difficult here), then the route can be divided into several sections. The first section from Budva to Ulcinj, overnight. Further, we drive along mountain roads along the Skadar Lake and spend the night in Virpazar. On the third day, we will visit the village of Rijeka Crnojeviča. and calmly return to Budva.

Now about everything in order.

We leave Budva and without stopping (it is possible with stops, as you like) we go to the city of Bar.

Budva Riviera

If time permits, you can stop by Becici on the way and visit Old Oliva. Before reaching the Przno resort, you can climb Mount Chelobrdo and admire the beautiful Sveti Stefan from the best observation deck. But you should remember about the time, perhaps an extra day should be allocated for these routes.

Bar city and surroundings

Five kilometers from the New Bar, there is the Old Bar, here it is much more interesting, I recommend slowly wandering around the ancient city.

There is another attraction near the Old Bar - the old olive tree. They say that the tree is more than 2,000 years old, but you can't say that at first sight. The attraction is paid (1 Euro per entry), it is not very easy to find it (indicated its location on the google map), here are the exact coordinates @ 42.0729748,19.1083698, (just enter the maps into google). In Becici there is a similar tree, which is about the same age, there are no tourists near it, and you can visit the attraction for free.

Ulcinj and Velika beach

Our next stop will be in the ancient city of Ulcinj, this city is very different from other coastal Montenegrin cities, it has a large Muslim community, mosques prevail, but there are also Christian churches.

The village of Rijeka Crnojevića

After Lake Skadar, another dilemma follows, either return to Budva along the already familiar road (along the sea), or drive through the small picturesque village-village of Rijeka Crnojevića (the most beautiful town on the shores of Lake Skadar) and then through Cetinje (Cetinje can be passed in transit) return to Budva (this path is indicated on my map).

If you have coped well with the mountain road through Vladimir, then you can go to the village of Rijeka Crnojeviča. If the road was difficult for you, then it is better to return to the sea, as there are several serpentines from Virpazar to Rijek Crnojevic and the path itself is a little more difficult.

It is not more than 25 kilometers from Virpazar to the village of Rijeka Crnojevic, but this particular section of the path is the most dangerous of all. The village of Rijeka Crnojevića can be visited in a safer way, if you go along the Cetinje - Podgorica highway from the side of the city of Cetinje, then the way to the village will be no more than 7 kilometers.

By car through the whole of Montenegro to the Durmitor National Park (route for 2 days)

Your trip to Montenegro won't be complete if you don't visit the mountains. The purpose of this route is to visit the Durmitor National Park with an overnight stay in the town of Zabljak. To be honest, there will be other National Parks on our way (Lake Skadar, Lake Biograd), which are also worth your attention.

The blog has a detailed road route from Budva to Zabljak, where I covered the topic in all its details.

Many people make a trip to Zabljak for one day, but in a hurry they do not see all the beauty of the place, we will not rush and repeat their mistakes. For this reason, the trip is divided into a trip from Budva to Zabljak and from Zabljak to Budva, there and back we go by different roads.

There is a more budget option, go on a bus tour "Canyons of Montenegro", how it goes, see the link.

Road route from Budva to Zabljak (first day)

The plan is as follows, leave Budva as early as possible, drive along part of yesterday's route (see above) and see what you did not have time to see (Lake Skadar), then the capital of Montenegro is the city of Podgorica, then to the north of the country and the final point of the route is Zabljak (there overnight).

Route map from Budva to Zabljak

Route length: 245 kilometers.

Car route from Budva to Zabljak:

  1. Budva - Virpazar: 43 km (over the mountains);
  2. Virpazar - Niagara waterfall: 27 km;
  3. Niagara waterfall - Podgorica: 7 km;
  4. Podgorica - Moraca monastery: 47 km;
  5. Moraca monastery - Biogradsko lake: 43 km;
  6. Lake Biogradskoe - Ravnyak waterfall: 28 km;
  7. Ravnyak waterfall - Djurdzhevich bridge: 28 km;
  8. Dzhurdzhevich bridge - Zabljak: 22 km.

Virpazar

We leave Budva as early as possible and drive to Skadar Lake. There are two roads from Budva to Virpazar, one is simpler through the Sozin paid tunnel, the second is free, interesting and mountainous. In this route we are driving through the mountains (this path is indicated on my map). To do this, you should turn inland right at Petrovac. In Virpazar you can have breakfast, take a boat ride on the lake, take a walk and go further.

Montenegrin waterfall "Niagara"

We are going to the Niagara waterfall, of course the Montenegrin waterfall does not reach the real Niagara, but you can call in. Be careful, the Montenegrin "Niagara" can easily slip by if you don't know where to stay (see the location on the map). :)

Finding a way to Niagara is also not easy, it is located on the Tsievna River, on a secondary road. After you pass the turn to the Golubovitsy airport there will be a bridge over the Tsievna river, after the bridge, turn off and go along the river. There is a restaurant by the waterfall with a leisurely service.

Podgorica

The next stop is Podgorica, here you can look at the Old Town, the Millennium Bridge, the monuments to Vysotsky and Pushkin, shop in the capital's malls and go further. Many people in general transit the capital, this has its own truth, so the choice is yours.

Moraca river canyon

The road along the canyon of the Moraca River leads us to the monastery of the same name. Before reaching the monastery there is the Mrtvitsa river, be sure to walk along the canyon of the Mrtvitsa river, there are very beautiful places (coordinates of entry 42.705212 19.374902). Further, we inspect the Moraca monastery and drive further.

On the way to the nat. park Biogradsko lake

On the way to the Biogradsko Lake National Park, there will be the town of Kolasin, if you have free time, you can visit it, but if you pass by, you will almost not lose anything.

We go to the National Park Biogradsko Lake, walk and go further. We pass the city of Mojkovac, again, if you have time and desire, you can visit it.

On the way to the nat. Durmitor park

We are heading towards another National Park of Montenegro, this time it is the Durmitor Park and our final destination of the trip is the town of Zabljak. The entire further path lies along the canyon of the Tara River, it is quite picturesque here. Halfway to Zabljak, you can stop at the Ravnyak waterfall and dine at the restaurant of the same name (they cook for a long time, but tasty).

Djurdzhevich bridge

Before reaching Zabljak, we turn a little to the side and admire the views of the Djurdzhevich bridge. You can ride on the Zip Line (there are also zip lines in other places of the National Park), there is also the possibility of kayak rafting (I recommend), but this is for those who travel to Zabljak for a few days.

Zabljak

We arrive in Zabljak. In order not to waste time looking for accommodation, we book it in advance. A word in advance is important here, since there is a demand for good options.

From comfortable accommodation I recommend these cozy houses (Vile Calimero), they are built in the style of an Alpine chalet with a fireplace and a homely atmosphere.

The houses are located slightly away from the city center, but within walking distance. There is free parking, free WiFi, coffee maker, etc. And most importantly, the rooms have a cozy, homely atmosphere, and not the feeling of a hotel room. This option is perfect for large companies or families with children, there are houses for 7 people.

We need a simpler option, then (Apartmani Prisoje). Very clean rooms, a bit out of the center (but who cares, you are in a car), there is free parking, a kitchenette, and breakfast is included in the price. If necessary, the hostess will tell and tell everything, she speaks good Russian.

We check in, and if the strength remains after the road, then you can go to the Black Lake (2 kilometers from Zabljak), for the most persistent (or the most stubborn) you can climb the Churovac cliff (the sunsets are wonderful here), etc.

Road route from Zabljak to Budva (second day)

The plan for this day is the following, wake up early, walk around the neighborhood and go back to Budva, but on a different route, which also promises to be interesting.

Route map from Zabljak to Budva

Route length: 286 kilometers.

Total time to complete the route: all daylight hours.

Car route from Zabljak to Budva:

  1. Zabljak - the dam of Lake Piva: 61 km (through the mountains of the National Park Durmitor);
  2. Piva Lake dam - Piva Monastery: 24 km;
  3. Piva Monastery - Niksic: 51 km;
  4. Niksic - Ostrog monastery: 25 km;
  5. Ostrog monastery - Danilovgrad: 30 km (along the M18 highway);
  6. Danilovgrad - Daibabe monastery: 26 km;
  7. Daibabe Monastery - Virpazar: 26 km;
  8. Virpazar - Budva: 43 km.

After spending one night (two, three, etc.) in Zabljak, we move back to Budva. We will go to Budva by another road in order to see as many beautiful places and sights as possible.

Piva lake, dam and monastery

One of the man-made sights near the Durmitor National Park is an artificial lake (Pivskoe reservoir) and a huge dam on it. If you are lucky and the mountain road through Durmitor National Park is open to traffic (should be checked in advance), you will see colorful views and save travel time. The road itself is not very difficult, the road surface is suitable for any car.

Near Lake Piva, turn right and drive along the water for no more than 15 kilometers (see the map). The dam on Lake Piva is considered the largest in Europe, and its dimensions are really impressive (more than 200 meters high).

We turn around and move south, pass Pluzine, a few kilometers behind it will be the Piva Monastery. After the Piva Monastery, I recommend making a stop in Niksic, stretching your legs and taking a walk along the lakes (see the map). If you live in Boko Kotorska Bay (Herceg Novi, Tivat, Kotor, etc.), then you can drive directly from Niksic to Boko Kotorska, the route is as follows: Niksic - Grahovo - Risan (see the map).

Ostrog monastery

There is a legend that all travelers on this road are guarded by Vasily Ostrozhsky himself, who is the founder of the monastery, so nothing bad should happen on this mountain road.

Daibabe monastery and Podgorica

Then we go in the direction of Podgorica, pass the capital in transit and stop at a rather interesting monastery with a funny name - Daibabe Monastery. If you have enough time, you can pay a little attention to the capital.

Cetinje or Lovcen

It should be noted here: you can go from Podgorica (via Cetinje) to the Lovcen National Park (see the road on the map). However, I recommend making a separate trip to Lovcen. Follow the link to see that the cleanest beaches of the Budva Riviera cannot be reached by car. So I recommend you set aside a free day and walk the most beautiful Budva beaches on foot.

Considering all of the above, I propose to take a ride on the beaches that are less accessible for machineless tourists, although there will also be a lot of vacationers there.

Map of the route of the beaches of Montenegro by car

Route length: 120 kilometers.

Total time to complete the route: all daylight hours.

Car route beaches of Montenegro:

  1. Budva - Jaz beach: 6 km;
  2. Jaz beach - Trsteno beach: 4 km;
  3. Trsteno beach - Ploce beach: 2 km;
  4. Ploce beach - Bigovo beach: 25 km;
  5. Bigovo beach - Blue Horizons beach: 19 km;
  6. Blue Horizons beach - Krasici beach: 5 km;
  7. Krasici beach - Rose beach: 10 km;
  8. Rose beach - Zanitsa beach: 10 km;
  9. Zanitsa beach - Mirishta beach: 1 km;
  10. Mirishta beach - Budva: 42 km.

There is nothing special to tell about this route, you fill in the coordinates into the navigator and go to all the beaches. I tried to include in this list the most interesting and less touristy beaches (although this is not about Montenegrin beaches, they are all tourist).

The roads along this route are different, part of the path runs along highways, there are also very country roads, but very nice ones (mainly on the Lustica peninsula).

Beaches near Budva

The start of the route, as always from Budva, the nearest beach according to our legend is the Jaz beach. The beach is large enough and at the same time there are no too large tourist settlements next to it, the nearest settlement is Budva. The beach is covered with large pebbles, there is all the tourist infrastructure and paid parking.

We go further, and then Tršteno beach. Perhaps this is the best sandy beach near Budva, it is quite small so it can get crowded. Tršteno beach is perfect for motorists with children, the entrance to the water is shallow, the beach is located in a sheltered bay, which means there are no strong waves. The beach is covered with sand, there is all the tourist infrastructure and an overcrowded free parking.

Kotor serpentine

We bought wine, cheese, route from the local population, had lunch and drove towards Kotor. But you should not rush, but you should carefully choose a place for a selfie against the background of the Bay of Kotor, the best photos are obtained from the Kotor serpentine, although there are many places with good views.

The descent to Kotor is not as scary as it is described, but there are very narrow roads, and there are sharp turns, the so-called “hairpins” (180-degree turn), but you can leave with an oncoming lane. There are two main dangers to this serpentine road, the stunning views and the monotony of the road. Be careful.

If you want to visit another fortress and it is still light outside, then turn to the side (look on the map) and the Goraja fortress will be very close. The safety of this defensive structure is excellent, good access by car, admission is free.

Evening Kotor

The last point of our today's excursion is the evening Kotor, do not be lazy and look into the city, in the evening it is especially charming, there are no crowds of tourists, but there are cozy cafes, small restaurants in the Old Town and a huge number of Kotor cats, which in the evenings also like to walk in their own way. hometown.

So another exciting day (vacation) in Montenegro has ended, thanks to the car we spent it interesting and dynamic. We return to Budva and remember this day, this vacation, this wonderful, friendly Montenegro ...

Not a nail for you, not a rod.

Here are some useful features to help you make better use of the map:

1 It will be more convenient to use the card if expand it to full screen.
There is a button for this in the upper right corner.

2 If drag the little man from the lower right corner to any point on the map, it will turn out to be viewed in 3D. In most resorts, you can even virtually "walk".

3 By clicking on any marker, you can go to a separate article and find out detailed information about the attractions in this place.

4 If you switch the card to "Satellite", you can find houses and roads that are not yet marked on a regular map.

We are constantly replenishing the map, adding new places and removing those that are no longer relevant.

Where is Montenegro located?

Montenegro is located on the Balkan Peninsula. It's in Europe. It's purest here. Nearby Italy, Croatia, Serbia, Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The country is small. Its area is 13 812 km², which is 3 times less than the Moscow region alone. It is possible to see everything, having traveled far and wide in Montenegro, even in a week. Especially if you plan and travel on your own.

Montenegro is not part of the European Union, tourists do not need a visa. here not - use Euro Indicative euro exchange rate:
1 euro = 74 rubles
1 euro = 31 hryvnia
1 euro = 2.35 Belarusian rubles
1 euro = 1.17 dollars

All courses are approximate, but they help you quickly estimate prices.

Various online maps of Montenegro: our TOP-5

1 Google Maps. One of the most convenient and familiar maps with rich functionality. Decent detailing in Montenegro, all major roads are marked.

Of the minuses - it does not lay pedestrian routes without an Internet connection.

2 Yandex maps. An analogue of the previous cards. Subjectively, the detail of these maps is worse than that of Google Maps, but it shows the main roads correctly. The service is blocked in Ukraine.

3 Maps.me. Decent cards that don't require an internet connection. Quite good detail, viewing platforms and paths are shown. They advertise hotels too actively, it gets in the way a little.

4 Wikimapia. In some areas, it is much more detailed than the previous options, but the interface seems to us not the most convenient.

5 Interactive map from Windy allows you to see water temperature, waves and wind speed in real time. Also shows a very detailed weather forecast.

Navigators in the car: online and offline

Most often in Montenegro we use the usual one with pre-downloaded offline maps. The leads are not always adequate, but there have never been problems on the main tourist routes.

Even if you have a mobile Internet (local SIM card or), we recommend you keep the maps offline anyway - on some mountain roads the network speed is low. Here's the instruction:

Step-by-step instructions on how to download Google maps to your phone

Many travelers prefer. As a navigator, these maps also work fine, we have no particular complaints about them.

Note!

In mountainous regions, navigators do not always plot the route correctly. For example, once he suggested that we go to Bosnia and Herzegovina on a badly broken dirt road. At first it was even more or less, but with every kilometer it got worse. I had to turn around.

If you see that the road is completely bad and in the navigator it is not marked with a bold line, it is better to look for an alternative path.

Navigators for pedestrians

For hiking, it is best to use. Here you can find the same possibilities as other maps, but marked with walking paths and observation points with beautiful views.

An added bonus is that these maps do not require an internet connection even to create walking routes. You don't have to pay extra for.

Hotels and apartments in Montenegro on the map

Almost all hotels and apartments in the country are rented through Booking.com. There are a lot of housing from owners or with just one intermediary (few people want to bother to rent a single apartment).

Booked plane tickets from Boryspil to Tivat, Windrouse airline, 2 adults + a teenage girl 14 years old (considered an adult) = 814 euro... We also looked at the offers of other companies for the sale of air tickets, but it was here that this flight turned out to be cheaper. I recommend looking at flight options on different sites, because it always turns out differently. Sometimes the cost of a ticket is cheaper on some sites, sometimes on others.

For the summer, there are usually many charter flights from Kiev to Tivat for 200-210 euros round trip. All these air tickets can be bought through travel agencies

2. Booking apartments in Montenegro

Having decided on the country of travel and the time, I began to find out what offers travel agencies have, as well as what options if you book everything yourself. (There are many different travel agencies, you can quickly see options for package offers for Montenegro for Russians on or, for Ukrainians on or Let's go with us) In our case, the proposals booking.com were more tempting than travel agencies. And it turned out even cheaper than on Booking.

But on Booking I liked that there are always a lot of reviews about hotels and apartments. Moreover, what do I VERY Like, all reviews are REAL... (You can leave a review only if you actually booked a hotel or apartment through them, and only within a certain period of time after you checked out of the hotel).

It should be noted that when choosing an apartment, we reviewed many different options on other sites. Quite a good site for the selection of housing in Montenegro There are many different options for apartments and villas with reviews, but the reviews did not seem entirely truthful to me. I understand that anyone can leave a review, even the owner of the apartment or another interested person. But if your task is to find a cheaper option, then undoubtedly you should pay attention to this site. In general, I advise you to look at the options on both booking and airbnb. ( Register using my link at www.airbnb.ru and get 15-23 € for your first trip!)

You can also search for options for apartments and hotels on hotellook.ru is a metasearch engine that collects the best deals from Booking and more than 60 hotel booking agencies.

We have chosen apartments through Booking Apartments Đurašević 2(Now called Apartments Grand) in Sveti Stefan (1 bedroom apartment (4 adults)) with a beautiful sea view and a swimming pool in the territory:

Since we decided to take a car for the entire stay, and drive around the country, and were also going to leave Montenegro, to neighboring Albania, and possibly Bosnia, the remoteness of this hotel from the sea did not bother us in any way. The apartment got prepaid very quickly in the amount of 30% of the cost from a bank card. Total cost for 13 nights turned out 724 euro.

3. Car rental in Montenegro

Then, I started looking for a rental car. You can read in detail about all the nuances of car rental in Montenegro in my article:

Renting a car in Montenegro is different from renting a car in the UAE, where we rented a car before. If in the Emirates it was more profitable to book a car in large international rental offices, then in Montenegro it is more profitable to book in small local rentals. For leisurely trips along the sea, mankind has not yet come up with a better car than a convertible, so we decided to book just such a car.

I looked through many sites, of which I liked two the most: renta-car.me and auto-travel.me

4. Preparing for the trip

When preparing for a trip to Montenegro, you need to solve the following main points:

- buy plane tickets,

- book an apartment,

- book a car.

- load maps into the navigator,

- pack your bags for the trip

5. Navigator, maps for the navigator in Montenegro

6. Driver's license for a trip to Montenegro, car insurance

International driving license for Montenegro it is not necessary, our usual rights are enough. But I already had an IDL, which I did before going to the UAE. In Montenegro, no one asked for an IDP, everywhere they showed ordinary laminated rights of the old model, that was enough.

Insurance: CASCO or OSAGO. The insurance models are the same as in Russia / Ukraine. With CASCO you do not risk anything, except for a franchise, if, of course, you were sober while driving. With OSAGO, you answer only if you are the culprit of an accident. I talked about this in more detail.

7. Travel insurance for a trip to Montenegro

Do I need to arrange a tourist stash for a trip to Montenegro?

There is no such mandatory requirement. Thus, it is up to you.
In general, I would recommend taking out such insurance for all tourists who come to Montenegro on their own. And the question is not even about money. If something happens, then either the operator of the insurance company, or one of the local residents (the owner of your apartment, a neighbor, or someone else) can help you with the organization of medical care. In this case, the first will be obliged to do this, but the second - if lucky.
By the way, the tourist will have to pay all the costs of medical care on the spot on his own from his own pocket. The insurance company compensates for all these expenses upon returning to Russia on the basis of checks and invoices.
