1 lot of VTB shares. Minimum amount to purchase Gazprom shares

How much money do you need to buy Gazprom shares?

Near 1500-2000 rubles— that’s exactly how much 10 shares of Gazprom will cost — the minimum possible lot for purchase.

But in fact, much more money may be required - it all depends on which organization we buy Gazprom shares from.

Minimum amount for the first deposit to a brokerage account

To purchase shares, you need a brokerage account, and to open one, each specific organization may have its own special requirements.

One of these requirements is the minimum amount of initial replenishment of a brokerage account.

It is important that we are talking specifically about the first contribution to a brokerage account. For example, if the broker has set the minimum amount for opening an account at 30,000 rubles, then after the first deposit of thirty thousand rubles, you can replenish the account with amounts of even one thousand rubles.

So, the requirements for brokerage account strongly influence the minimum amount required to purchase Gazprom shares. Therefore, it makes sense to study this issue in advance.

Below is a comparison table based on the “minimum amount” criterion for 11 largest organizations, through which it is possible to purchase Gazprom shares.

Comparison table of brokers by minimum amount

Brokerage organization Minimum amount
any
any (barrier tariff)
ATON LLC any
PJSC Promsvyazbank any
ALOR+ LLC 10000
KIT Finance (LLC) 15000
JSC "FINAM" 30000
LLC "Company BKS" 50000
OJSC "IC "IT Invest" 50000
100000
Bank GPB (JSC) 100000

These amounts are generally not a strict requirement, but are often referred to as “guideline amounts.” Often, even if there is a recommended amount, the first deposit can be made with smaller amounts.

Protective tariffs

It happens that at first glance there are no restrictions, and there may be no requirements for a minimum amount. But at the same time, there may be additional, “barrier” tariffs for amounts below a certain level.

For example, “If the amount on the account is less than 50 thousand rubles, then the subscription fee is 200 rubles per month.”

These are the conditions that will apply if, for example, we want to buy Gazprom shares through the Otkritie broker.

Do not underestimate the role of these additional costs - these “barrier” tariffs can cause significant damage to the profitability of our investments:

  • For 12 months, the amount of such expenses will be 2400 rubles
  • Initially, we contributed, for example, 20,000 rubles to purchase Gazprom shares
  • Over the course of a year, our profitability will be -12% lower than it would have been without this “barrier” tariff

This example clearly shows the role of cost brokerage services, therefore, the selection of an organization for the purchase of Gazprom shares must be carried out not only according to the criterion of the minimum required original amount, a separate article will be devoted to comparison of tariffs.

That is, if we consider Otkritie, we see that despite the fact that there are no requirements for the minimum possible amount, in fact, the minimum required amount for the subsequent purchase of Gazprom shares will be at least 50 thousand rubles.

So, there are organizations in which there are no down payment requirements at all.

In such cases, the minimum amount for purchasing Gazprom shares will be determined only by the price of the paper and the size of the lot, i.e. in fact, the minimum amount can be 1500-2000 rubles.

Partial replenishment

Even if there is a minimum threshold, the brokerage account can be replenished in parts. It’s just that in this case not all functionality may be available.

For example, even with a limit on the first deposit of 100 thousand rubles, the first payment may well be one thousand rubles, it’s just that you won’t be able to buy shares with this money until the remaining 99 thousand are paid in.

Well, these restrictions, again, do not apply to all subsequent replenishments.

Empty brokerage account

Despite the requirements for a minimum initial deposit into a brokerage account, you do not have to fund it at all, in which case it will not be closed.

In this case, there are no negative consequences, except, perhaps, polite calls from the broker with the question “Do you need help with anything? Do you have any difficulty funding your brokerage account?” etc.

It is quite normal for cases when, for example, after opening a brokerage account, you change your mind about buying Gazprom shares or other shares, or your personal financial situation changes.

A situation where an open brokerage account has a zero balance may exist for several years. True, sometimes agreements on brokerage services may provide for the right of a brokerage organization to unilaterally close empty brokerage accounts for which there has been no activity for a long time.

The most important thing is that an empty brokerage account is not something that requires attention - a situation where we have a negative balance is impossible.

Opening a brokerage account in itself does not impose on us any monetary obligations, however, like a bank deposit, all types of penalties can be brought against it by a court decision (debts under credit cards, alimony, unpaid fines, etc.).

Minimum number of Gazprom shares

In addition to the condition on the minimum amount, you must also fulfill the condition on the minimum size of one transaction that exists in the markets valuable papers. Shares are often sold not one at a time, but in lots. One lot can contain 10, 100, 1000 shares.

1 lot of Gazprom shares = 10 shares

If the price of a share, for example, is 119 rubles, then, to purchase, you need at least 1190 rubles.

Expenses that increase the minimum amount

As a rule, we still need a little more money, because we will also have to pay for the services of the organization in which we purchase Gazprom shares - a broker.

Costs include the following payments:

  • Transaction fees

These payments take the form of a certain percentage, which is taken by the broker from the transaction amount, for example, 0.2% of the transaction amount (Sberbank). Sometimes this is a fixed amount, for example, at least 43 rubles per transaction (Finam).

  • Subscription fee for maintaining an account

Often, a broker sets a subscription fee for maintaining a brokerage account, which, however, is not charged in the case of a zero brokerage account (see above). The subscription fee for the broker Finam, for example, is 177 rubles, but at Sberbank, for example, there is no such fee.

  • Payment for depository services

Usually payment depository services occurs upon the fact of a purchase or sale of a share, and the tariff may sound like this: “100 rubles for the month in which the purchase or sale transactions took place.” This means that if we are going to buy shares once, we will only pay these 100 rubles a year. And if we make purchases every month, then we will have to pay these 100 rubles every month.

  • Additional payments

The organization through which Gazprom shares are purchased may charge a fee for Additional services— consultations, voice requests (Sberbank), programs, etc. If possible, at the initial stage you need to minimize the number of these paid additional services.

All these payments are automatically debited from our brokerage account, reducing capital, so you need to be very careful when choosing broker rates.

In fact, these expenses increase the minimum required amount that we will need to purchase Gazprom shares. the situation can turn out to be very absurd: the minimum amount for purchasing Gazprom shares can be, for example, 1,200 rubles, and the costs of the transaction and subsequent maintenance can be 1,800 rubles.

So it turns out that the minimum amount will no longer be 1200 rubles, but 3000. But it is clear that in such a situation it is necessary, rather, to decide the feasibility of such investments.

conclusions

  • The minimum price of Gazprom shares starts from 1,500 rubles (as of summer 2017) and is calculated using the formula “10 shares * share price”
  • Depending on where we open a brokerage account, the minimum amounts required for a purchase (specifically for the purchase, and not for opening the account itself) will differ
  • The absence of broker requirements for a minimum amount is not always good (there may be “barrier” tariffs, high costs of other services)

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a note that from March 1, the MICEX will change the lot size for 70% of issuers
The other day, the MICEX exchange published on its website the sizes of new lots and now it is possible to count who became the leader and outsider of these changes.

Note on tables:
1) By “outsiders” I will mean securities whose lot has increased the most (since in theory, liquidity in them should fall more), and by “leaders” I will mean securities whose lot has decreased the most.
2) For convenience, the changes in the prices of lots in the table are given in whole rubles, without kopecks.

It is clear that there are still several dozen “outsiders”, but the leaders are in tears. But for the leaders, the changes are much more significant, which means liquidity will be great!

In the last note, I wrote that according to the meaning of the press release printed on the MICEX website, it may turn out that the number of shares in the Sberbank (or Rostelecom) lot will be different: ordinary shares the lot will be = 10 pieces, and for the privileged ones = 20 or 100 pieces.

And so it happened - for 6 issuers the lot sizes for ordinary and preferred shares will be different.

Thus, with a security price of 120 rubles, minimum size lot will be 10 securities total cost one standard lot - 1200 rubles. Q: Will there be equal lot sizes for common and preferred shares of the same issuer?
A: In case the cost of ordinary and preferred shares one issuer has the same order, then for the convenience of participants the lots are set in the same sizes. For ordinary shares and preferred shares, the cost of which differs significantly, the lots may be different.

Q: From what date will the lot sizes in the Trading System be changed?
ABOUT: Lot sizes will be changed from March 1, 2011. Changes are indicated on the website.
New lot size on MICEX

Q: Will it be possible to sell the incomplete lot that appears or supplement it after March 1? How can this be done?
A: Before the lot sizes are changed (until March 1, 2011), each investor can freely carry out transactions for the purchase and sale of securities, based on the current standard lot sizes, both in standard trading modes and in the specialized trading mode “Incomplete Lots” "and, thus, increase the number of securities in your portfolio to a multiple of the new lot sizes.
After March 1, 2011, the holder of securities in an amount less than the size of the new lot can enter into transactions with these securities in the “Incomplete Lots” trading mode.

Q: What will happen if the price of a new lot, as a result of a change in the value of a security after March 1, falls below the threshold of 1,000 rubles? Will lot sizes change in the future?

Important:

  1. This portfolio is a savings tool.
  2. The portfolio is an investment portfolio (not speculative), and involves investing funds for a period of one year or more. Investment Strategies are based on the fact that in the long term the population of the planet is growing, the amount of resources is decreasing. As a result, in the long term, demand increases, supply remains unchanged or decreases, prices rise, and the long-term trend is growing (you can read more about the differences between investment and speculative strategies).
  3. Don't limit yourself to a one-time investment. Regular additions of funds and additional purchases of shares smooth out speculative fluctuations in portfolio returns (if you buy once, there is a chance that you are buying at an extreme point; if you buy shares regularly (for example, every month), you are guaranteed to repeat the market trend).
  4. You should only sell shares if you decide to leave stock market and start spending what you have saved. In other situations, for example, similar to the 2008 crisis, it is worth using panic for new purchases, assuming recovery and further growth in stock prices as part of the cyclical development of the economy and a long-term trend.

Comparison of the profitability of buying blue chips and investing in bank deposit

The graph shows the dynamics of profitability of two accounts from January 2004 to February 2011.

On one (yellow line) regular purchases of blue chips are made. Every month, once a month (15-17th) on this account, shares of Gazprom, MMC Norilsk Nickel, LUKOIL, Sberbank, Sberbank preferred, Surgutneftegaz are bought for 10,000 rubles.

On the second account (blue line), deposits to the bank are made with similar frequency for similar amounts (historical data of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation on average deposit rates excluding demand deposits - you can see).

As can be seen from the graph, even taking into account the 2008 crisis, investing in shares turned out to be more profitable. Final portfolio accumulated in shares amounted tomore than 11.6 million rubles.(RUB 11,632,722.78), for comparison, by investing in bank deposits only 6.7 million rubles would have been accumulated.(6,726,185.63 rubles).

In the long run, buying shares turned out to be better than investment to a bank deposit almost 2 times(1,73).

Lot of shares represents a unit of purchase and sale during trading on exchange platforms. The predetermined size of the product in physical terms corresponds to the lot size.

What is a stock lot and its types?

It is known that a lot of securities is the current number of shares that are purchased in one transaction. The lot concept provides an opportunity for financial markets to standardize and unify price quotes. For example, shares that give its holder the right to buy and sell a certain number of securities at a specific price in a limited time are valued in such a way that each lot () allows the purchase of 100 shares of the total capital at once. That is, investors always know exactly how many units they are purchasing each time they enter into a contract. Therefore, they can easily estimate the cost of one unit. Experts note that trading securities without such standardization would be time-consuming and unreasonably burdensome.

On stock exchange Other names are also used when referring to the term “lot”:

  • full (round) lot - consists of a package of 10, 100, 50 or another number of shares;
  • non-standard (incomplete, non-round) lot;
  • bulk (fractional) lot - the number of securities is determined depending on the smallest established number of shares of a particular denomination;
  • prepackaged lot - depending on the denomination of securities, their quantity is determined.

Non-standard lot

Blocks of shares that are smaller than the standard size were processed by two firms until the 70s - Carlisle's Jacquelin and DeCoppet's Doremus. these companies did not solve their problem: profitability of this business has been steadily declining. Therefore, in 1976 the decision New York Stock Exchange provided an opportunity for Merillinch to begin work on executing orders from its clients with non-standard lots. This led to the liquidation of the merged Carlisle DeCoppet firm.

After 1970, there was a consistent trend in the sale of partial lots compared to purchases.

Trading of non-standard lots is always carried out according to special rules. For example, the Moscow Exchange has established a “partial lot mode” for trading. Trading is carried out exclusively only from 16:00 to 18:45.

It should be noted that in the non-standard lot mode, the volume of transactions that are concluded will be smaller than in the main mode, since at this time there are fewer sellers and buyers. Therefore, the spread between the best sell quote and the best buy quote in the “non-standard lots” mode will be larger.

Lots of shares on the Russian stock exchange

The number of securities included in one lot is determined by the exchange. For example, the standards of the Moscow trading platform establish that:

  • 1 lot banking institution VTB consists of 1000 securities of VTB Bank;
  • 1 Rosneft lot contains 1 Rosneft share;
  • 1 lot of Surgutneftegaz has 100 Surgutneftegaz securities.

Experts note that in Lately there is a decreasing trend trading platform number of assets in one lot. This is done in order to reduce its cost. In this way, purchasing one lot becomes correspondingly more accessible. Thus, new small investors are attracted to the exchange.
